Welcome to The Abbeyfield Orpington Society

Abbeyfield is a national non-profit charitable society, solely dedicated to the welfare and happiness of elderly people in each locality. For over fifty years it has provided secure accommodation for older people - many of them in their nineties - who are reasonably fit but who do not wish or are unable to go on living alone. They want to remain independent and value their privacy but wish to shed the burdens of cooking and housekeeping. They want to feel secure and, above all, they want companionship - loneliness in old age is the greatest burden of all.

Abbeyfield raises the well-being and quality of life of older people - we aim to serve elderly people irrespective of their financial means, and we welcome applications from all sections of the local community.

The small non-institutional nature of the houses, the coming together at mealtimes, the communal sitting room, and the programme of social activities ensure companionship from fellow residents, staff and volunteers.

Financial Position

Our spending programme covers repairs and maintenance work and this is mainly financed by income from our residents. We also benefit from donations from individuals, fund-raising events, legacies and charitable foundations.

Quality Assurance

We hold quality assurance certification under the Abbeyfield Standard and are accredited by the London Borough of Bromley for the Supporting People programme.
